Herget was traded from the Angels to Atlanta on Thursday in return for cash considerations, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Herget will join Atlanta after being designated for assignment by Los Angeles on Sunday. The right-hander produced a 3.97 ERA and 0.97 WHIP with seven strikeouts over 11.1 innings in 10 appearances with Triple-A Salt Lake this season. Herget pitched a perfect inning and struck out one to earn the save in Monday's 8-5 extra-innings win over the Mariners. Herget has pitched 4.2 scoreless innings since he was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Sept. 1. The Angels optioned Herget to Triple-A Salt Lake on Thursday. After allowing three runs over the course of one inning in his appearance Wednesday against Texas, Herget will head back to Triple-A. Herget has a 2.25 ERA and 1.17 WHIP in the minors this season, so it's possible he returns to Los Angeles later this year if he produces similar numbers in Salt Lake. Herget picked up a save against Texas on Friday, striking out two batters in a scoreless inning of work. Herget tossed nine of 12 pitches for strikes in the outing and fanned a pair for his ninth save. The right-hander has recorded three saves in the past four days and four since Sept. 20. Herget picked up the save with a clean ninth inning in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Athletics. Herget entered the game with a 4-3 lead in the ninth inning and needed 14 pitches to retire the Athletics in order and record his seventh save of the season. In 10 September outings, Herbet has two saves and four holds while surrendering just one earned run over 12.1 innings. Angels' Jimmy Herget: Records sixth save
Herget allowed a hit in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Rangers. Herget took two blown saves and added three holds over his previous six outings. Interim manager Phil Nevin opted to give Herget another closing opportunity in a fairly safe spot with a three-run lead, and the 29-year-old right-hander got the job done. One of his blown saves in the aforementioned six-appearance span occurred when he allowed an inherited runner to score -- he's given up only one run in his last 8.2 innings. Angels' Jimmy Herget: Blown save Tuesday
Herget suffered a blown save after he pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing an inherited runner to score while giving up one hit and striking out a batter in Tuesday's extra-inning win over the Tigers. He did not factor into the decision. Herget entered the game with one out in the eighth inning and runners on second and third base, ultimately giving up an RBI groundout to Javier Baez before getting Spencer Torkelson swinging to end the frame. The blown save was his second of the season and first in his last five save chances. Since the beginning of August, the right-hander has allowed two runs (one earned) while striking out 20 batters over 19 innings in 13 appearances. Angels' Jimmy Herget: Secures fifth save
Herget walked two and struck out two in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Wednesday's 3-2 win over the Yankees. Herget has picked up saves in each of his last three appearances, which makes him look like a slight favorite for closing duties in the Angels' committee. He made it interesting Wednesday with walks to Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton before retiring the next three batters in order. Herget ends August having allowing just one run in 17 innings with an 18:6 K:BB. He's been effective with a 2.70 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and 52:12 K:BB through 53.1 innings overall, adding five saves, three holds, a blown save and a 2-1 record through 36 appearances.... See More ... David O'Brien@DOBrienATL7H agoPierce Johnson gave up a 2-run double off the wall that caromed off Duvall's foot in the sixth to give back the lead to the A's, 10-9. #Braves have 2 on in bottom of the sixth, which began with Kelenic's single off LH O'Loughlin. He's had good ABs and hits off lefties this week.
